When we work with businesses and nonprofits, our clients always want to know what they can do quickly and easily to improve their results on social media. “We want to know how to reach more customers,” they say. “How do I get more traffic to my website?” they ask. “I want more people to share my content,” they exclaim.
And while we have many strategies that we share with our clients, here are 3 fairly easy things you can do right now to improve your social media marketing, and get better results.
- Make sure your About page is accurate and includes a link to your website. Every social network has a place where you can list information about yourself. Be sure you’ve taken the time to fill this out, and make sure you’ve included a link to your website. If people are visiting your social network and like what they see, they may very well want to learn more and look here for a link to your website. Make sure they can find it!
- Share useful content related to what you offer, and not just ads. Think about the brands you visit most on social networks. Do they simply post a steady string of ads? Not likely. Rather, they post interesting content that helps you learn something, or fun contests, or links to information that you find useful. Think beyond what you’re selling, and instead take time each week to share something of value with your online community. They’re a lot more likely to return and share your content if they find it useful.
- Set up notifications on your phone so you can respond when someone posts on one of your sites. A huge key to success on social networks is engagement, yet far too often busy organizations neglect this important step. It’s not enough to post content. You also have to respond to people. For example, I try to click the “Like” link every time someone comments on one of my status updates. It’s a way of acknowledging that I’ve seen it and that I appreciate them taking the time to comment. In order to efficiently keep track of engagement, be sure to check the settings of each social app you have on your mobile device, and be sure to turn notifications on, so you’ll be notified whenever someone engages on your profiles. You will have far greater returns when people feel heard and validated.
Social networking can be of real value to organizations, when it’s done well. It can help you build relationships with the people who matter most to your organization, so that they will continue to engage with your organization both online and in person. By following these simple steps you can significantly improve your online presence, which leads to the results you’re looking for.
